Micro-Needling

Collagen Induction Therapy

Harness your skin's own healing power — micro-needling stimulates collagen production for smoother, firmer, more radiant skin.

Micro-needling is one of the most effective and versatile skin resurfacing treatments available today. By triggering the skin's natural wound-healing response, it stimulates the production of new collagen and elastin — the structural proteins responsible for smooth, firm, youthful skin. At CosmeticaTX, we perform professional micro-needling using precision devices that deliver consistent, controlled results across all skin types and tones.

What is Micro-Needling?

Micro-needling, also known as collagen induction therapy (CIT), is a minimally invasive skin treatment that uses a device with fine, sterile needles to create thousands of microscopic channels in the skin's surface. These controlled micro-injuries stimulate the skin's natural repair process, triggering the production of new collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid. The result is a progressive improvement in skin texture, firmness, and tone over the weeks following treatment. Micro-needling is highly effective for a wide range of skin concerns: acne scars and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, fine lines and early wrinkles, enlarged pores, uneven skin texture, stretch marks, and overall skin dullness. Because the treatment works with the skin's own biology rather than removing layers of skin, it is safe for all skin tones — including darker complexions that may not be suitable candidates for more aggressive resurfacing treatments like deep chemical peels or ablative lasers.

How Does It Work?

Before your micro-needling session, a topical numbing cream is applied and left on for 30 to 45 minutes to ensure your comfort throughout the treatment. Once the skin is numbed, your provider uses a professional micro-needling device to glide across the treatment area in a precise, systematic pattern. The device creates thousands of microscopic channels in the skin at a controlled depth — typically 0.5 to 2.5 millimeters, depending on the area being treated and the concern being addressed. These micro-channels stimulate the skin's healing cascade: growth factors are released, fibroblasts are activated, and new collagen and elastin fibers are synthesized over the following weeks. Serums — such as hyaluronic acid, vitamin C, or growth factors — are often applied during the treatment to penetrate deeply through the micro-channels for enhanced results. The treatment takes 60 to 75 minutes including numbing time.

Who Is a Good Candidate?

Micro-needling is suitable for virtually all adults with skin concerns related to texture, tone, scarring, or early aging. It is particularly well-suited for clients with acne scars, enlarged pores, fine lines, or uneven skin texture who want a treatment that works with their skin's natural biology. Because micro-needling does not rely on heat or light energy, it is safe for all Fitzpatrick skin types, including darker skin tones. Clients who are pregnant or breastfeeding, have active acne breakouts, open wounds, or skin infections in the treatment area, or are using certain medications are not candidates. A thorough consultation will confirm whether micro-needling is appropriate for your skin.

What to Expect

Immediately after your micro-needling session, your skin will appear red and feel similar to a mild sunburn — this is a normal and expected response that indicates the treatment is working. The redness typically subsides within 24 to 48 hours. Over the following days, you may notice mild dryness and flaking as the skin begins its renewal process. The real results develop gradually over the following four to six weeks as new collagen is synthesized. Most clients notice a visible improvement in skin texture and tone after their first session, with more significant results after completing a series of three to six treatments spaced four to six weeks apart. Results continue to improve for up to three to six months after the final session.

Recovery & Downtime

Micro-needling has minimal downtime. Most clients experience redness and mild sensitivity for 24 to 48 hours, similar to a mild sunburn. During this time, use only gentle, fragrance-free skincare products — avoid active ingredients such as retinol, AHAs, BHAs, and vitamin C for 48 to 72 hours after treatment. Avoid direct sun exposure and apply SPF 30 or higher every morning, as the skin is more sensitive to UV damage immediately after treatment. Avoid makeup for 24 hours to allow the micro-channels to close and reduce the risk of irritation. Avoid strenuous exercise, saunas, and steam for 24 to 48 hours after your session.

Pricing

Micro-needling is priced per session, with package pricing available for a series of three to six treatments. Combining micro-needling with PRP (platelet-rich plasma) therapy — sometimes called the 'Vampire Facial' — enhances results significantly and is available as an add-on. A personalized quote will be provided during your consultation based on the treatment area and whether any add-ons are included. Financing through CareCredit and Cherry is available.
